Sandy Stolle

Biographical Information

Sandy Stolle has lived in Alaska since 1976.  She spent 12 of those years in the Inuit village of Selawik and now resides in Seward.  Her work reflects experiences in those communities and their extraordinary natural environments.  Woodcarving, a skill developed during her time in Alaska, is her primary medium of work.

Now known for her relief carving, work done mainly with chisel and mallet, she explores themes varying from realistic to abstract.  Using a variety of woods, her carvings accentuate rich textures, using the natural characteristics of the wood. Sandy has several large artworks in a variety of locations within the state, commissioned for the Alaska Percent for the Arts Program.  Her work is included in collections at the Anchorage Museum of History and Art, the Alaska State Council of the Arts- Art Bank, and several private collections.
